Restorations are needed when a tooth breaks or has decay. Our office uses Composite material to restore teeth. We do not offer amalgam (silver) restorations.
We never suggest replacing a filling that does not need replacing. However, if you have dark silver fillings or old discolored fillings and are dissatisfied with them, Dr. Cregar can discuss a more natural looking replacement.
Full Crown/Bridge Restorations
A crown is used to restore teeth that have fractured, have large existing fillings or that have had root canal therapy. Crowns and Bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth or implants surrounding the space where the tooth once stood.
In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, crowns and bridges can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift. Crowns and bridges help prevent this from happening.
Implants/Restoration of Dental Implants
The placement of dental implants is done at the oral surgeon or periodontist office. The restoration of dental implants is done in our office.
An implant crown or bridge requires two appointments. First to take an impression to get the proper size/fit and second to attach the finished tooth to the implant. This procedure provides you with a tooth in an area where one was removed or was previously missing.
If you have any questions about implants, our staff will be happy to discuss this treatment option with you.
An immediate bridge is a more expedient way of replacing missing teeth. It literally bridges the gap of a missing tooth between two adjacent teeth using composite resin. Immediate bridges are usually placed in the anterior region of your mouth for esthetics. They are not recommended for the back teeth because they are not as strong as conventional fixed bridges.
Dr. Cregar would be happy to explain this procedure in greater detail.
Full Dentures/Removable Partial Dentures
Full dentures and partial denture prosthesis replace missing teeth but they are removable.
Impressions are taken and sent to the lab where a denture or partial denture is fabricated. Several appointments are needed to ensure proper fit, form and function. A final appointment is needed to deliver your new prosthesis. At this appointment we verify that your new denture or partial denture fits properly and meets your esthetic desires.
Cosmetic bonding is a way to make a tooth’s appearance more esthetically pleasing. The bonding process uses a composite resin to closely match the natural tooth color to help improve its appearance.
Bonding can stain over time and is easier to break than other cosmetic treatments, such as porcelain veneers or full crowns. If a bonding does break or chip, tell your doctor. Dental bonding is painless and can often be performed in one visit.
We offer professional grade, take home teeth whitening kits. Hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are the ingredients used to whiten teeth. We can help you decide which is best for you.
